The famous moong dal here is called Moradabadi dal after the name of the city, which is very much liked in many places across the country. This dal is not only tasty but also beneficial for health and its mild spice flavor melts on the tongue. This recipe has been made since a very old time and even today its taste is liked a lot. It is said that during the Mughal period, Shah Jahan's third son Murad Baksh liked this dal very much and during that reign this dal dish mainly came to the fore. The taste of this dal is amazing, but many times people feel that it is not made so tasty at home. So let's know the traditional recipe of making Dhaba style Moradabadi dal.

 

Unpeeled moong dal is used in Moradabadi dal. Oil is not used in it and raw onion and green chillies are sprinkled in it. These things not only enhance its taste but also make it more healthy. Let's know the method of making Moradabadi dal.

First know the nutrition of moong dal

According to Health Line, 200 grams of moong dal contains 14.2 grams of protein, as well as 14.4 grams of fiber which is beneficial for digestion. 200 grams of moong dal contains 80 percent of the daily requirement of folate, 30 percent manganese, 24 percent magnesium, 22 percent B1, 20 percent phosphorus, 16 percent iron, 16 percent copper, 15 percent potassium, 11 percent zinc. Apart from this, this dal is rich in many other nutrients.

 

What are the ingredients needed?

Take approximately one cup of moong dal i.e. 200 grams. Soak it in water for one hour. Apart from this, you will need two pinches of asafoetida, half inch piece of ginger, 1 lemon, one teaspoon roasted cumin powder, half teaspoon garam masala, chaat masala, white and black salt as per taste, green coriander, onion, two tablespoons of butter. Let's know its recipe. If you want to make crunchy chaat then you will need papdi.

 

Moradabadi Dal Recipe

Put the washed moong dal soaked in water in a pressure cooker and add three cups of water, add salt and asafoetida and let it cook well till one whistle comes. If you cook it in a pot on low flame, it tastes even better. When the dal is cooked, cook it in a pressure cooker for 5 to 8 minutes more so that it becomes thick. If the dal has become too thick, add boiled water and cook for two minutes and then add butter to it.

 

Serve dal like this

There is a different pleasure in eating dal in a clay pot. Serve the dal in a hot bowl. Put a small cube of butter on it and then break the papdi and add it to it. Add black salt, green coriander, coriander chutney, finely chopped ginger flakes, finely chopped onion, green chillies on top. Fry dry red chillies in oil and crush them and sprinkle them on the dal, along with this add chaat masala, garam masala. Sprinkle lemon juice on it. In this way your tasty Moradabad dal will be ready. If you are a fitness freak and do not like fat at all then add less butter or you can skip it, but its real taste comes from butter only.
