Actor Genelia D’Souza has added her voice to the ongoing industry debate around work-life balance in the film world. In an interview with Zoom, the actor shared her thoughts on working extended hours, revealing that she routinely works up to 10 hours a day.

“It is tough but it is not impossible. I do work for 10 hours a day and there are days when the director asks to extend it to 11 or 12 hours. I think it's fair but we just need time to make those adjustments,” she said.

Her comments come at a time when working hours have taken center stage in Bollywood, especially after Deepika Padukone reportedly exited filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film ‘Spirit’ over creative and scheduling disagreements.

Deepika Padukone's Spirit exit

The debate was sparked by reports that Deepika Padukone opted out of Spirit after the director allegedly rejected several of her terms, including an 8-hour working day, dialogue restrictions, and profit-sharing. The news led to an outpouring of support for Deepika from notable industry figures such as Ajay Devgn, Mani Ratnam, and Neha Dhupia.

Though Genelia did not mention Deepika directly, her remarks offered a different perspective. “When you have a day or two where you have to overdo, it's also an understanding and a process that needs to be done,” she noted.

What’s Next for Genelia?

On the professional front, Genelia is gearing up for her role in 'Sitaare Zameen Par', Aamir Khan’s upcoming sports comedy-drama. The film will introduce ten fresh faces and is directed by RS Prasanna. Scheduled for release on June 20, it is expected to offer a heartwarming cinematic experience.
