WHAT HAPPENED?

Fati's proposed switch to Monaco has collapsed after Barcelona rejected the Ligue 1 side's opening offer, Marca reports. Monaco's proposal was a loan deal without covering the full salary of the Spanish winger, whose current wages remain high following a previous contract extension. The Catalan giants declined the offer, as the club is unwilling to subsidise a player's salary while they are away on loan.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fati returned to Barcelona last summer after a loan spell at Brighton, where he failed to make an impact. For Barca, he played only 11 matches in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, including six La Liga appearances and no goal contributions. With coach Hansi Flick leaving him out of the squad for several matches, Fati's future in Catalunya remains uncertain.

It is not known if Monaco will return with an improved offer, with the report adding they do not want to buy him outright. The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is looking at other departure routes while Barcelona wants him offloaded permanently.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR ANSU FATI?

Fati is expected to continue preseason with Barcelona while his representatives seek a new club. If no suitable offer arrives, he may remain at the club despite limited playing opportunities under the German manager.
