SBI Card has announced sweeping changes set to take effect from July 15, 2025impacting both premium and co-branded credit card users. These updates affect complimentary insurance coverage, minimum payment calculationsand payment settlement order.

Free Air Accident Insurance to Be Discontinued

The most significant change is the withdrawal of complimentary air accident insurance on several cards.

From July 15, 2025:

• Rs 1 crore coverage on SBI Card Elite, SBI Card Miles Elite, and Miles Prime will end.
• Rs 50 lakh coverage on SBI Card Prime and Pulse will also be withdrawn.

From August 11, 2025:

• Co-branded cards with Rs 1 crore coveragesuch as:
  • UCO Bank SBI Card ELITE
  • Central Bank of India SBI Card ELITE
  • PSB SBI Card ELITE, and others, will lose the benefit.
• Cards with Rs 50 lakh coverageincluding PRIME variants from South Indian Bank, Karnataka Bank, Allahabad Bank, and others, will also be affected.

These removals mean cardholders will no longer receive automatic air accident insurancea previously valuable feature for frequent flyers.

Revised Minimum Amount Due (MAD)

Starting July 15SBI will update how it calculates the Minimum Amount Due on credit card bills:

New MAD formula:

• 100% of GST
• 100% of EMI amounts
• 100% of fees and charges
• 100% of finance charges
• Any over-limit amounts (if any)
• Plus 2% of the remaining outstanding balance

This change is likely to increase the minimum payable amountespecially for those with high EMIs or charges.

Updated Order of Payment Settlement

From the same date, SBI will revise how payments are adjusted:

New settlement order:

1. GST
2. EMIs
3. Fees/charges
4. Finance charges
5. Balance transfers
6. Retail purchases
7. Cash advances

This impacts how interest is charged and how fast you can reduce your costliest debts.

Cardholders are advised to review their statements carefully and adjust financial plans accordingly. Losing insurance coverage and changes in payment processing could have significant implications for how much users pay and what protections they receive.
