Chitrangda Singh began her career with the film 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi'. She gained recognition through movies like 'Yeh Saali Zindagi', 'Desi Boyz', 'I', 'Me Aur Main', 'Baazaar', 'Bob Biswas', and 'Gaslight'. Expanding her role in the industry, she produced 'Soorma'. After a seven-year hiatus following her son's birth, she made a notable return with appearances in the series 'Modern Love Mumbai' and 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter'.
Defining Her Return: Not a Comeback
In an interview with Bollywood Bubbles, Chitrangda explained that she does not view her return to work as a comeback because she hasn’t taken on projects consecutively. She noted that people might perceive her absence since they are accustomed to seeing actors continuously working. Although she has done relatively few projects at times, she emphasized that she has always been present in the industry and never truly disappeared. She mentioned having taken one long break and a shorter one lasting about a year and a half, but otherwise has been active over the years. Singh believes there is no need to label her return as a comeback—she is simply continuing her work.
Prioritizing Family Over Career
She acknowledged that seven years is a significant amount of time and explained that since she always saw herself as an actor, she questioned what difference it would make to take a break. Choosing to prioritize her family and personal life, she made the decision to step away from acting. At that young age, she felt it would have been difficult to manage both career and family simultaneously. Although she is unsure how her fans felt about her absence, she admitted that she missed acting, the cinema, and being in front of the camera. She also realized that performing gives a unique high, something she hadn’t fully appreciated while she was actively working.
Fans’ Unwavering Support and Return to Work
The actress shared that she only began to truly understand the significance of her decision after she stepped away from acting. She expressed her gratitude that her fans never forgot her or her work during that time. Even after a seven-year hiatus, she started receiving offers for work upon her return. She mentioned that Farhan Akhtar’s production house was working on a period film and managed to find her phone number, despite someone having mentioned that she had changed it due to receiving many calls previously.
