Before marrying Aishwarya Abhishek was in a relationship with someone from another prominent film family. The two were even engaged. However the relationship ended shortly before the wedding. The seriousness of their bond can be understood from one particular incident involving Jaya Bachchan. On a public stage she openly addressed an actress as her daughter-in-law. Their relationship had progressed well beyond an engagement. The Bachchan and Kapoor families were already connected in some ways Abhisheks sister Shweta Bachchan married the son of Karisma Kapoor’s aunt. This means Shweta became part of the Nanda family after her marriage further strengthening ties between the two families. At that point it seemed only natural for the Bachchans to welcome a daughter-in-law from the Kapoor family. During a public event Jaya Bachchan even announced from the stage saying The Bachchan and Nanda families are now going to make the Kapoor family a part of our own. However this wonderful feeling did not last very long after that and Abhishek and Karismas engagement was called off a few months later. None of the families shared the reason but it has been reported that Babita drove a wedge in their relationship. Babita didnt want Karisma to marry a hero whose career was a flop. She reportedly demanded a prenuptial agreement under which Amitabh would transfer a portion of his wealth to his sons name. But the Bachchans didnt agree.
