Jonathan Bailey, best known for his charming portrayal of Anthony Bridgerton in the hit 'Bridgerton' is now finding himself at the center of a new kind of fan campaign, one that envisions him donning the iconic tuxedo of James Bond. Though the actor has been named as a potential successor to Daniel Craig, Bailey remains cautiously uncertain about the possibility.
During a recent appearance on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, Bailey was asked about the long-standing rumours linking him to the legendary 007 role. When host Scott Mills posed the question of whether he’d actually want to play Bond, Bailey hesitated before admitting, “I don’t know… I’m not sure… it would be hard to say no.”
He may not say yes
The 'Wicked' actor who stars as Prince Fiyero in the upcoming two-part musical film adaptation admitted that while he hasn’t made up his mind about taking on the massive responsibility, he’s definitely humbled by the speculation. “That’s an amazingly flattering ask,” he said before cleverly deflecting the spotlight with a quip telling Mills, “I could imagine you as James Bond.”
Bailey added that regardless of who ends up taking the lead, the next chapter in the Bond saga will undoubtedly be thrilling. “Whatever they do, I know it’s going to be exciting,” he said.
A bond… with a horse?
If Bailey were to step into the shoes of the MI6 agent, we might just see 007 galloping into action with a familiar companion. The actor previously spoke about his deep bond with a horse named Jack who he rode in 'Bridgerton' and even requested to be part of 'Wicked.'
In a heartwarming voiceover shared on Wicked’s official TikTok page, Bailey revealed how he personally pitched the horse to the film’s director Jon M. Chu. “I said to him, ‘I think I know who the horse is.’ He was like, ‘What do you mean?’ It’s Jack, the horse that I’d ridden in 'Bridgerton' who I had an amazing relationship with,” he recalled. “People say, don’t work with kids and animals. But if it’s Jack, I’d say, ‘Take the job. He’s a legend.’”
While the idea of Jonathan Bailey taking on the Bond mantle still remains in the realm of possibility, the actor’s mix of humility and intrigue has only further ignited interest. Whether he ends up sipping martinis or simply charming audiences in period dramas and musicals, Bailey’s fans are clearly ready for whatever comes next perhaps even with Jack riding alongside him.
