Beloved TV star Pik-Sen Lim, who became famous for her roles in Doctor Who and Mind Your Language, has died at the age of 80, according to . The actress rose to fame playing Chung Su-Lee in the 1970s comedy Mind Your Language.
She later went on to land roles in a number of classic British dramas, which included Coronation Street and The Bill. In film, one of her more notable credits was starring opposite Rowan Atkinson in as the Killer Cleaner in the 2011 film Johnny English Reborn. Pik-sen's more recent roles included Vampire Academy and The Nevers. The screen legend was previously described by the British Film Institute as "the most recognisable Chinese actor on British television throughout the 1970s and '80s." The actress was also popular in the video game world for her voiceover work. Gamers will know her as the narrator for the opening cinematics of Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3.
Actor Daniel York Loh was one of the first to lead the tributes to the late star, with a touching post on , recalling seeing Lim on Mind Your Language before eventually working with her on stage plays, readings, and workshops.
"She was so affectionate, so witty, so brilliantly scabrous and absolutely honest about the rubbish this industry deals actors of our heritage - unlike a fair few others who actually try and cape it," said Loh. "We'll miss you so much but thank you, Pixi, for blessing our lives with your unique presence."
Lim found a love for acting at a very early age, but her parents and relatives were not supportive of her desire to pursue it as a profession.
Against the wishes of her family, she moved to the United Kingdom in 1961 at the age of 16 to study at the London School of Dramatic Art.
She also met her husband while working in the showbiz world. In 1964, Lim appeared in the hospital drama series Emergency Ward 10, playing a nurse, where she met scriptwriter Don Houghton, whom she later married in 1968.
In 1971, the couple welcomed a daughter, Sarah Houghton, together, who followed in her mother's footsteps and also became an actor.
