
The Enforcement Directorate recently questioned actors Urvashi Rautela and Sonu Sood in connection to an ongoing betting app case. Renowned cricketers like Harbhajan Singh Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina were also grilled by the agency. According to NDTV profit Sonu Urvashi and others were questioned regarding their connection and endorsement deals with illegal betting apps and platforms. An ED reportedly said These platforms have gained massive visibility by partnering with celebrities and influencers — even in defiance of explicit government bans. However Urvashi and Sonu havent issued any official statement yet. In March an FIR was lodged in Hyderabad against 25 celebrities for endorsing illegal betting apps. The list includes Vijay Deverakonda Rana Daggubati Prakash Raj Manchu Lakhsmi Praneetha Nidhi Agarwal and others. They were accused of charging hefty remuneration to promote unlawful platforms. Thousands of lakhs of rupees are involved in these illegal platforms and it is also leading many families into distress especially that of middle-class and lower middle-class a complainant reportedly said. In response Prakash Raj admitted that he had appeared in one such advertisement in 2015 but left the campaign within a year. Rana Daggubatis team also stated that his endorsement deal was bound with laws and regulations. The statement by his legal team read This is to clarify that Rana Daggubati entered into a contract with a company to act as a brand ambassador for skill-based games which expired in 2017. His endorsement was strictly limited to regions where online skill-based games were legally permitted. However Bollywood actress Kangana Ranuat known for her controversial statements slammed the celebrities and shared her take on the controversy. She said This endorsement came to me almost 6 times over a span of one year every time they added several crores to the offer to buy me but I said NO each time look anymore yeh integrity is not good just for your conscience anymore yeh naya Baharat hai sudhar jao nahi toh sudhar diye jaoge (sic). She ended her statement with a laugh emoji and Indian Flag emojis.
