If you’re travelling by train and carrying home-cooked food, this news could be useful for you. A small mistake may land you in trouble.
Many passengers tend to throw leftover food or other waste on trains or at stations after eating. This habit can prove costly. The Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway has taken action against several passengers, so it’s important to be cautious during your journey and avoid this common error.
According to reports, the Prayagraj Division carried out an intensive checking campaign in the last financial year to offer passengers a better and cleaner travel experience. During this drive, action was taken against those who littered or smoked in public spaces.
A total fine of Rs 32,63,050 was collected from 26,964 passengers. Out of this, Rs 31,23,925 came from 26,253 passengers who were penalised for littering, and Rs 1,39,125 from 711 passengers caught smoking.
According to railway officials, the goal of the campaign was to ensure a safe, comfortable, and clean journey for all passengers. The Prayagraj Division remains committed to providing basic facilities like hygienic food, clean drinking water, and tidy toilets. Regular checks are also conducted to discourage ticketless travel and maintain cleanliness in trains and at stations.
As per Indian Railways rules, littering or smoking on trains or station premises is a punishable offence. Offenders may face a fine, imprisonment, or both. Hence, the Prayagraj Division urges all passengers to help keep the railway premises clean and to refrain from smoking.
Such behaviour not only disturbs fellow passengers but also leads to penalties. This campaign was launched to raise awareness and encourage people to follow railway rules. Similar drives will be organised in the future to ensure a better travel experience for all.
