By Jitendra Jangid- Friends, we all have become so busy in our work and life that we are not able to pay attention to our lifestyle and diet, due to which many types of health problems arise, the most common of which is pain and swelling in the knees. Swelling in the knees can sometimes be due to minor injuries or temporary stress, but persistent or severe swelling can be a sign of an underlying medical condition. Let's know its causes-
1. Heart Failure
When the heart is not able to pump blood effectively, pressure builds up in the blood vessels. Especially in the lower parts of the body such as legs and knees. Swelling in the knees can be an early sign of heart problems.
2. Liver damage
When the liver is damaged - due to conditions such as cirrhosis - it can lead to low protein levels, which can lead to fluid leakage in the tissues and result in swelling in the knees and legs.
3. Kidney problems
Healthy kidneys filter excess fluid and waste from the body. But when kidneys become damaged, water and sodium accumulate, leading to swelling, especially in the legs and knees.
4. Blood clots
Blood clots in the veins of the legs — known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — can cause sudden swelling, redness and pain in the knee and surrounding areas.
5. Weak or damaged leg veins
When the valves inside the leg veins become weak, blood begins to pool in the lower limbs instead of returning to the heart. This can lead to gradual swelling in the knees and ankles.
