Tulsi plant is used in many medicines of Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, and Allopathy along with home remedies. All its parts including root, stem, and leaf are useful. You can earn lakhs by making oil from Tulsi leaves or by selling its leaves etc. The good thing is that farming does not cost much. You can easily start this business from home.
How much will have to be invested?
If you want to start this business on a small scale, then you can open a nursery of Tulsi plants. Apart from this, you can farm basil plants by planting them on the roof or courtyard of the house. You can start this with just Rs 5,000. If you can invest a little more, you can cultivate it by spending up to Rs 15,000. You can also get your land rented and farmed on contract.
The crop is ready after 3 months of sowing.
Many Ayurvedic companies in the market like Dabur, Baidyanath, Patanjali, etc. are also farming basil on contract. Basil crop is sold for an average of Rs 3 lakh just 3 months after sowing. It does not require much space and neither does it cost much on maintenance.
How to plant basil plant?
If you are planting RRLOC 12 and RRLOC 14 varieties of basil plants, then plant them at a distance of 50 x 50 cm. This will help them grow well. Light irrigation is necessary immediately after planting the plants. Water has to be given at least once a week or as per requirement. Irrigation should be stopped 10 days before harvesting the plants.
How much will be the earnings?
Tulsi plant is ready in 90 to 100 days. If you cultivate it on 1 acre of land, then you can earn 3 times your cost i.e. 15x3=45 thousand rupees per month.
