She started her career in 1971 with the Malayalam film Tapasvini. Director K. Balachander introduced her to Tamil cinema through the film Aval Oru Thodar Katha. She impressed everyone with her acting in her very first Tamil film. After this she worked in Tamil Telugu Malayalam and Hindi films. Over the years she acted in over 200 films out of which she played the lead role in 100 movies. Sujatha worked with many superstars from Sivaji Ganesan to Rajinikanth Kamal Haasan and more. While Sujathas professional life touched the heights of success her personal life was in major turmoil. Actress Sujatha had a love marriage with Jayakar. The couple had two children. After marriage Sujathas life was in turmoil. It is said that her husband forced her to work in films for money and that she had to face domestic violence. Sujatha could never recover from these wounds. Sujathas last Tamil film was Varalaru in which she played the role of Kanikas mother. Her final film was the Telugu movie Sriramadasu released in 2006. Battling health problems she passed away in 2011.
