Big changes in Whatsapp: Now ads and paid subscriptions!
News: Amit Raghav (Bureau Chief Dehradun)
META has started ads and paid subscriptions in WhatsApp under its monitization plan. These changes will be seen in the updates tab (Status and Channels section):
Ads in status: Now, like Instagram stories, advertisements will be seen in Status, so that businesses will be able to promote their products.
Promoted Channels: Some channels will be promoted to give more visibility.
Paid channel subscriptions: Users will be able to get exclusive content by giving monthly subscriptions for some channels. META will take 10% commission out of it.
no changes: Personal Chats, Group Chats and Calls will still be ad-free and end-to-end encrypted.
Ad targeting:Ads will be based on your location, language, and interaction, not on your message or phone number.
Disable option: If the users want, you can get Ad-Free experience by disableing the updates tab.
This feature is gradually rolling out in some areas.
Whatsapp has mixed reactions from users regarding this change-some people are appreciating new business tools, while many are considering it to be with WhatsApp’s “Ad-Free Identification”.
