Strong rains spoiled Gujarat’s condition, 22 people lost their lives in two days

A tragic accident occurred in the morning on 17 June 2025 in Botad district of Gujarat, when an eco car filled with nine passengers was swept away into the river with a strong current. NDRF Inspector Vinay Kumar Bhati said that four people have died in this accident, three are still missing. At the same time, two passengers have been rescued. It is being told that this car was being used as a shared tempo. The sixth battalion of NDRF has launched rescue operations, which is still going on. Due to heavy rains and blocked roads, there was a lot of obstacles in rescue operations, but relief work was done from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm with the help of the district administration.

Torrential rains in Gujarat havoc

In the last two days, torrential rains in Gujarat have caused havoc. The districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat have suffered the most damage. Especially in Botad and Amreli. Botad recorded 247 mm of rainfall between June 16-17, which had to open the gate of the pillar dam. Due to this, Gadgada road was closed and the urban and rural areas nearby were hit by floods. Five dams are also in spate in Amreli district, where many people, including 24 laborers, were evacuated with the help of Indian Air Force helicopter and Coast Guard.

12 teams of NDRF and 20 teams of SDRF are engaged in relief work in other affected districts including Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Kutch, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar. Five migrant farmers were rescued from flood -affected fields in Amreli, while 40 people were evacuated from Barwala taluka in Botad. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with the collectors of 25 districts and directed to give top priority to the safety of life and property.

Red alert of heavy rain

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of heavy to extremely heavy rain for the next four days in Botad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Surat, Rajkot, Junagadh and the surrounding districts. Barwala taluka has received 178 mm of rain in 12 hours. Rivers of Saurashtra and South Gujarat and about 140 dams are flowing above the danger mark.

Due to this heavy rains, roads and railway tracks in Botad and Amreli have been submerged, which disrupted traffic. Schools in Bhavnagar have also been closed. The opening of the gate of the pillar dam has increased the risk of floods in the low -lying areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to Chief Minister Patel and took stock of relief work and assured all possible help from the Center. So far, about 8,500 people have been transported to safe places.
