Karel Geraerts has been appointed the new manager of Stade de Reims. The Belgian has signed a two-year deal.
It was confirmed by Jean-Pierre Caillot last week that Samba Diawara, who took charge following the departure of Luka Elsner earlier in the campaign, would leave his role as manager of the first team to return to his role as assistant manager. It is a role he occupied under Elsner and also under his predecessor, Will Still.
Diawara presided over a bad end to the season at Reims, which, despite a run to the Coupe de France final, ended with relegation to Ligue 2. That came after a defeat to FC Metz in the relegation play-off. Tasked with leading the club back to the top flight, Geraerts has been nominated as the club’s new manager.
The Belgian, who also had interest from Standard Liège and CSKA Moscow, has signed a two-year deal with Stadists.
