Sitaare Zameen Par Struggles In Advance Bookings, Is Aamir Khan Headed For Another Flop?

Sitaare Zameen Par advance booking: Aamir Khan is gearing up for a comeback with 'Sitaare Zameen Par', which is all set to release in cinemas this Friday. This marks his return to the silver screen after a hiatus of three years. While his last two outings — 'Thugs of Hindostan' and 'Laal Singh Chaddha' — failed to make a mark commercially, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' carries the weight of expectations, particularly because it’s seen as a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic 'Taare Zameen Par'.

Sitaare Zameen Par advance booking

Advance bookings for the film were off to a sluggish start. The pre-sales window only opened late Tuesday night, a little over 48 hours before release — reportedly due to a delay in certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film managed to clock just over ₹1 crore in advance ticket sales for day one as of Thursday morning — a figure that’s surprisingly low for a film headlined by Aamir Khan.

To put things in perspective, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' — which released three years ago and was widely considered a box office letdown — registered ₹5.52 crore in advance sales. At this rate, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' seems unlikely to match even that benchmark, unless there’s a strong last-minute push.

Sitaare Zameen Par lagging behind other big releases

So far, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has been overtaken by several other major 2025 releases in terms of advance ticket sales. Films like 'Jaat' (₹2.37 crore) and 'Kesari Chapter 2' (₹1.84 crore) are already ahead. And while Aamir’s film may eventually surpass these, it's unlikely to get anywhere close to the advance numbers of 'Sikandar' (₹10.09 crore) or 'Housefull 5' (₹8.02 crore). The fact that it's still trailing even behind box office disappointments like 'Kesari Chapter 2' and 'Laal Singh Chaddha'0 raises concerns for the film’s initial performance.

Sitaare Zameen Par box office projections dim

Industry chatter surrounding the film’s day-one performance is also cautious. While certain reports suggest an opening in the ₹10–11 crore range, trade sources paint a more conservative picture. According to Hindustan Times, the film could open in the ₹5–6 crore net range domestically.

If those estimates hold true, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' would collect just half of Laal Singh Chaddha’s ₹11.70 crore opening back in August 2022 — a sobering comparison, considering that film, too, was labeled underwhelming.

All eyes on word of mouth

There’s still some cautious optimism in the industry. Trade expert Atul Mohan told Hindustan Times, "Aamir Khan's films, barring Thugs of Hindostan and Dhoom 3, are known to be slow openers, and then build on word of mouth. And those two were massy films, which Sitaare Zameen Par is not. So, I still have hope that the film can do well even after a slow start, provided it builds some positive word of mouth."

Early audience reactions will be critical — particularly through the first weekend — in determining whether the film can recover from its slow start. A poor opening might pose a serious challenge in gaining momentum.

About Sitaare Zameen Par

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film casts Aamir Khan as a basketball coach who mentors a team of children with special needs. Genelia D'Souza stars alongside him, and the film marks the acting debut of ten specially-abled performers. While its heartwarming theme may eventually resonate with audiences, the real test begins once the curtains rise.
