In the photo, Chow wears a mask and leans his head on Lau’s shoulder, while she sports a T-shirt with the logo of his upcoming film, “Shaolin Women’s Soccer.” According to Next Applethe sighting marks a rare public reunion between the two since their 1996 collaboration in the film “Forbidden City Cop.” It also has fueled speculation that Lau may be visiting the film’s set or even making a cameo appearance. Thousands of fans took to Weibo to express their excitement, recalling the actors’ chemistry as an on-screen couple in the film.
Hk01 reported that while Chow has gained a reputation for being difficult to work with—reportedly falling out with many former collaborators—Lau remains one of the few who has maintained a strong relationship with him. In an earlier interview with Mingpaothe actress described Chow as “a weiro,” saying: “He wears a mask to film premieres, cycles aimlessly around the city, and doesn’t care that his hair has turned completely white.”
“But he’s truly unique and a gifted filmmaker,” she said. “He’s full of wild ideas, and in filmmaking, that unconventional thinking is what sets him apart. What’s abnormal in life becomes normal in his movies.”
Lau, now 60, began her career in 1984 and became a household name through a string of hit TV dramas in the 1980s before transitioning to film. Her acclaimed performances in “2046” and the “Infernal Affairs” sequels helped cement her international fame.

Chow, 63, launched his entertainment career as an extra at Rediffusion Television before joining TVB in 1982. He made his breakout film debut with the 1988 film “Final Justice,” which earned him a Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor. He began directing in 1994 and found global success with films such as “Shaolin Soccer,” “Kung Fu Hustle,” and “Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons,” which became the highest-grossing Chinese film at the time of its release.

“Stephen Chow is both the worst and the best friend I’ve ever had,” Leung said.
