Both and his fiancée , whom he met on , are huge animal lovers. The Strictly star has said his heart is "broken" as the family's beloved puppy needs surgery.

Their goldendoodle has been in the family just a month, but has already been taken ill with vomiting fits and had to be rushed to the vet for emergency surgery. In the Strictly pro's update on Instagram, he wrote: "Many of you messaged asking how is Benji doing. Unfortunately he didn't get better so this AM I had to take him back to the vets and leave him there to do scans and end up having surgery." The Spanish dancer, who reached the Strictly final twice, added: "It breaks my heart seeing him like that and to leave him there."

He'd initially had fears that the pup may have inhaled parts of a plastic brush he'd found, which could have entered his tiny body and interfered with his breathing and digestion.

However, Gorka confirmed that the surgery is likely to be a success and that he expected his furry friend to be back home within hours.

Last month, he'd described the day the pup arrived back in May as "the best day of 2025 so far". It comes after the couple lost two dogs in a matter of months, with Norman dying in 2024 and another older dog, Ollie, dying six months after that.

However, their remaining dog Rocco was there to greet Benji when he joined the family, which also includes their human children Mia and Thiago.

Little Thiago is set to turn two next month, and his dad has admitted he's been a huge source of comfort while he frets about their dog's health.

Revealing the pair had been playing, he wrote: "At least this little man made me smile all morning!"
