Renowned lyricist Vairamuthu has recently expressed regret over the use of several refrains from his songs as film titles. “Isn’t it fashionable to use a word just by hearing it?” he asked, which became a point of contention in the film industry. His comments created a stir by taking a dig at the creators.
Vairamuthu to claims of rigidity
In this context, Vairamuthu has clearly responded to the accusation that “I refuse to edit the lyrics.” He has stated that this is not true and that the statement is false and unfair. He said that he is ready to accept corrections if he has the integrity and understanding, and shared many incidents of accepting them in his post.
Vairamuthu recalls editing the word “Uyirthalam” in ' Punnagai Mannan ' song
In the song "Van Megam Poopoovai Thoovum..." featured in the movie Punnagai Mannan, it was written, ""Mazhaithuli therithathu, enakkulle kulichathu, ninaithathu palichathu, uyirthalam silirthathu." The reason the composer asked to change the word “Uyirthalam” was that it could be misunderstood and cause problems. Vairamuthu, who considered this reasonable, said that he changed it to “Kudaikambi Thulrithadhu”.
'Vairamuthu' stood firm on retaining a reference to "Darwin"
But when someone asked him to change the line about “Darwin” in the movie “Manithan,” he refused, saying, “A song shouldn’t just tell you what you know; it should also teach you what you don’t know.” Director S.P. Muthuraman also accepted it with respect. “At times like these, I refuse to change, but they are distorting the truth and criticizing me. What should I do?” Vairamuthu shared in his post.
