
Mbappe missed Madrid's opening 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal after reports of a "viral outbreak" and now there will be huge doubts over whether he will be back in time for the next game against Pachuca on Sunday.

"We still don’t know if he’ll be ready for the next match," he said. "He’s been dealing with a serious viral infection. We’ll monitor his progress closely in the coming days."

And on Thursday afternoon, Madrid posted a brief update on Mbappe's condition on their website, writing: "Our player Kylian Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment."
Gastroenteritis typically eases in a few days, but can last a week or longer in more serious cases. It is usually caused by a bacterial infection or a stomach bug and can cause vomiting or diarrhoea.
