Team India captain Shubman Gill has revealed that he had a discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir about who should bat at number four, with Virat Kohli retiring from the format. The right-handed batter said that he was keen to bat at number four and that Gautam Gambhir also wanted the same.

Kohli, who announced his Test retirement with an emotional Instagram post on May 12, enjoyed massive success when he batted at number four for India in the format. The right-hander played at number four in 160 innings, mustering 7564 runs at 50.09 alongside 26 hundreds.

Speaking at the pre-game presser, Gill answered the question by a journalist about his batting position by stating:

"After Virat bhai retired, me and Head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir had a discussion about it. We were both clear and he wanted me to bat at number four and I also wanted to bat at that number."

"IPL comes every year" - Shubman Gill

When asked if winning the IPL is bigger than winning a Test series in England, Gill picked the latter as Indian captains don't get many chances to come to these countries in the leadership role. The 25-year-old stated:

"Definitely the Test series, in my opinion. You don't get many opportunities as a captain to be able to come to England. Maybe 2, if you're the best of the generation, maybe 3. IPL comes every year and you get to have a crack at it every year. So, in my opinion, winning the Test series, in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are bigger."
