The Essence of Education
On Thursday, Governor Haribhau Bagde articulated that the primary goal of education should extend beyond merely awarding degrees; it should focus on enhancing an individual's intellectual capabilities.
He emphasized that educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, should prioritize practical knowledge over rote learning to foster intellectual growth.
Bagde made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed main entrance at Rajasthan Technical University in Kota.
According to an official statement, the Governor noted that the true identity of any educational institution is defined by the quality of education it imparts.
Reflecting on ancient educational practices in Gurukuls, Bagde highlighted that these institutions provided hands-on learning across various languages and subjects. He pointed out that while there were no degree-holding engineers in those times, they possessed such technical skills that they could construct robust buildings and enhance students' memory through knowledge.
He stated, 'Advanced technology aids in resolving life's complexities. Technical education enriches an individual's life and paves the way for them to achieve the highest status in society.'
The Governor urged technical universities to develop high-quality technology that would help India carve a unique identity on the global stage.
Later, he also attended the convocation ceremony at Agricultural University, Kota, where he called for the modern advancement of agricultural education in light of traditional Indian knowledge. He stressed the importance of adopting natural farming practices and working towards rainwater conservation.
