Kapil Dev described this change as “strange” and said that he found this decision “strange”.
Kapil Dev said, “It seems a little strange … like, what happens? But it is fine, everything goes on in cricket. Finally it does not matter. Cricket is cricket. Cricket on the field should be the same.” This comment by Kapil Dev emphasizes that changing the name should not affect the original form of the game.

The Pataudi Trophy was named Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, one of the greatest captains of Indian cricket. It was established as an award for the winner of the Test series played in England in 2007. The Indo-England cricket scene has a deep connection with the name Pataudi. Both Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor captained India and also played county cricket in England, which strengthened cricket relations between the two countries.
