New Delhi: Every individual has the right to live a proper life. Some get an opportunity to stay in their home countries, while some don’t find a place. Those individuals who have been forced to leave their home countries because of fear of conflict, violence or any other circumstances, these individuals are known as refugees.

Refugees face multiple challenges like the dangers of the journey, basic needs and services and also the potential social and legal hurdles in their new host country.

They are exposed to all kinds of dangers as well, such as extortion, harsh treatment of authorities while travelling and violence.

To recognise the strength of refugees, World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20. The day honours and celebrates refugees from around the world. Every year, a different theme is set for World Refugee Day, and this year’s theme is “Solidarity with Refugees.”

World Refugee Day Theme 2025: Solidarity with Refugees

World Refugee Day 2025 calls us to act with compassion during uncertain times. Many people are being forced to leave their homes, and humanitarian aid is facing challenges. This year’s theme, “Solidarity with Refugees,” encourages us to take tangible steps beyond words to help those who have fled. Refugees need not charity but the chance to rebuild their lives, contribute to their communities and live with dignity.

This World Refugee Day is an opportunity to honour the bravery and strength of refugees, listen to their stories, and work toward lasting solutions for their situation. It reminds us that welcoming refugees strengthens our communities, sparks innovation, and creates places where everyone can belong. By working together—through policy changes, community involvement, and sharing refugee stories—we show that refugees are not forgotten or alone, and they have hope.

What does solidarity mean?
