
There have been many controversial love stories in the Bollywood industry that made headlines but never reached the stage of marriage and ended midway. One such famous love story is that of the late superstar Rajesh Khanna and veteran actress Anju Mahendru who dated from 1966 to 1971. During that time the two were also in a live-in relationship but it didnt last long. Recently veteran actress Mumtaz spoke openly about their relationship in an interview. In response Mumtaz says Her first husband had passed away. She lived with Rajesh Khanna for years like a wife managing the house taking care of him. Mumtaz added that Anju used to host her and her husband as well since their house was within walking distance. Mumtaz further said She was a wife without marriage exactly like that. The two were in a live-in relationship for seven years. In 1971 Anju rejected Rajesh Khanna’s marriage proposal because she wanted to focus on her career which led to a rift in their relationship. After that Anju got engaged to Barbadian cricketer Gary Sobers but she later broke off the engagement to reconnect with Rajesh Khanna. However Rajesh Khanna went on to marry Dimple Kapadia in 1973 and he and Anju eventually became friends. Around the same time Anju married actor Imtiaz Khan in 1972 but the couple divorced in 1979. Anju Mahendru remained close to Rajesh Khanna and was by his side even during his final moments.
