A Natural on Screen

Some individuals are simply meant for the spotlight, and Banita Sandhu is undoubtedly one of them. However, her journey has not been without its hurdles. In a candid conversation prior to the premiere of Zee5’s Detective Sherdil, where she shares the screen with Diljit Dosanjh and Boman Irani, Sandhu opened up about her experiences.

Collaborating with Legends

When asked about working alongside Diljit and Boman, Banita's enthusiasm is palpable. “They’re both phenomenal,” she exclaims. “Observing their craft felt like attending the finest acting workshop imaginable.” She fondly remembers her interactions with Boman Irani, describing them as effortless. “He’s such a warm and caring individual, radiating charisma effortlessly.”

Navigating Diverse Industries

Banita’s professional path has been anything but linear, and she embraces this diversity. At one stage, she balanced an English television series while also engaging in a South Indian film project. “That’s how my career has evolved,” she shares. “And honestly? I cherish it.”

The Quirks of a Multicultural Career

This cross-cultural experience has led to some amusing outcomes, particularly regarding her accent. “It’s a bit of a jumble now,” she laughs. “Having performed various accents for different roles has blended my natural voice into something unique.”

Facing Challenges Head-On

Banita is open about her struggles. “I began my acting career at 18,” she recalls. “I was still in college in London, having just moved out of my parents’ home, and working in India—a country I had never visited before.”

Lessons Learned Early

“There were moments when I overlooked my mental well-being,” she admits. “However, I’m thankful for those early lessons. Now, I understand that simple things—like sleep, company, and nutrition—are vital for mental health. Since relocating to India, meditation has played a significant role in keeping me centered.”

Embracing Mistakes

Reflecting on her past, she expresses, “There’s so much I wish I could advise my younger self. Would avoiding certain mistakes have led to greater success? Perhaps. But those experiences have shaped who I am today.”
