Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Union Home Minister Amit Shah has delivered a powerful message on national identity, declaring that a time will soon come in India when those who only speak English will “feel ashamed.” Arguing for a form of “linguistic independence,” Shah stated that Indians cannot be truly connected to their roots without embracing their native languages.

Speaking at a “Hindi Diwas” (Hindi Day) event, Shah framed the widespread use of English as a form of “slavery” and an “inferiority complex” left over from the colonial era. He asserted that India’s soul resides not in a foreign tongue but in its diverse array of regional languages, which are the lifeblood of the nation’s culture, history, art, and grammar.

“We cease to be Indians without our languages,” Shah proclaimed, emphasizing that one cannot understand the essence of India through a translated language. His vision is for a future where pride in one’s mother tongue replaces the perceived prestige of English.

The Home Minister linked this cultural vision to government policy, highlighting the New Education Policy (NEP) as a key instrument for this change. He praised the NEP’s focus on promoting education in students’ mother tongues, seeing it as a crucial step in preserving and strengthening India’s linguistic heritage.

Ultimately, Shah’s address was a fervent call for Indians to shed the last vestiges of colonial influence and to find pride and identity in the languages that are intrinsically their own.
