Scammers are finding new tricks to harm you people, now cyber security experts have told us about a new scam that has become a 'headache' for people these days. Every day Gmail starts getting filled with many promotional emails, fake job offers, and feedback requests to avoid this problem, we take the help of the unsubscribe button given in the email, but if you also do something similar, then now you need to be careful because now scammers have made the unsubscribe button their new 'weapon' to cheat.

According to the report of The Wall Street Journal, the unsubscribe link that you see in the email is not always real. Scammers check whether the email is active or not by sending links to you people. Once you tap on the unsubscribe link, the scammers get to know that the email is active and then the fraudsters take the next step to execute their plan.

The Wall Street Journal report says that if you get an unsubscribe link in an email from an unknown sender, do not make the mistake of clicking on such a link even by mistake, by doing this, the scammers can get access to your phone, laptop or any device you are using. Apart from this, your data can also be stolen.

This is how the game is going on.
Cybercriminals send these links by putting tracking codes in them that track your activity and with this code, the fraudsters come to know whether the account is active or not. As soon as you click on the link, your email is marked as active. Analysis by cyber security firm DNSFilter shows that about one in 644 unsubscribe links takes the user to a site that can harm you and there is a risk of your email password being stolen.

Keep yourself safe like this.

Instead of clicking on an email from an unknown sender, it is better to mark that email as spam so that Gmail helps protect you from such spam emails next time.

Unless you completely trust the sender, do not make the mistake of clicking on the unsubscribe link appearing in the email.

Use privacy tools like Hide My Email, this tool works to hide your real email address.

Keep your email app and antivirus software updated so that you can keep yourself safe from such threats.
