India scored 359/3 against England with centuries of Shubman Gill and Jaiswal

Leeds, Leeds: India made an impressive score of 359/3 till the first day of the first Test against England in Headingley thanks to the patient’s patient’s fly century and a restrained innings of vice-captain Rishabh Pant. Jaiswal played a brilliant innings of 101 runs with the help of 16 fours and a six off 159 balls, after which Gill played an unbeaten 127 innings playing the role of captain. The stylish right -handed batsman hit 16 fours and a six off 175 balls and helped India to score his first day in Tests on England. Pant, supporting his captain, played an unbeaten innings of 65 runs off 102 balls. His innings consisted of six fours and two skyscraper sixes and he had an unbreakable partnership of 138 runs with Gill.

In this process, Gill crossed the 2,000 -run mark in Test cricket, while Pant crossed the 3,000 -run mark.

Jaiswal, who initially commanded the innings, was dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes soon after tea, who carried the innings forward with 2/43. The only other success from England was to Bridan Karse, who ended the match with a 1/70 figure.

India’s 359-run efforts overtook their previous best opening-day score in England, 338/7 in Edgbaston in 2022. The last time the team went on a tour of England on the first day in England, it was equivalent to South Africa’s score of 362/4 at the Oval in 2003.

India would want to strengthen its lead on the second day by Gill and Pant staying at the crease, while England will be desperate to return to the match.

Earlier, in the first day, Jaiswal and KL Rahul shared a strong opening of 91 runs.

Thanks to the impressive innings of Jaiswal and KL Rahul, India finished the first session of the first day of the first Test match on the score of 92/2.

England broke the opening partnership between India and England at lunch, as KL Rahul missed his half -century, scoring 42 runs.

The pair of Gill and Jaiswal added 123 runs off 154 balls in the second season, where England bowlers could not take a single wicket.
