Monsoon: Monsoon has gained momentum; Heavy rain alert in many states, Meteorological Department advised to be cautious

Weather Update: Amid scorching heat in many parts of the country, the monsoon has now become active and there is a possibility of heavy rain. Alerts have been issued in many states including Delhi. The monsoon has picked up pace in many parts of the country and now it is expected to hit some areas of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab in the next two to three days. According to the Meteorological Department, between June 20 and 25, light to moderate rainfall may occur in many areas of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

Red alert issued for heavy rain

At the same time, a red alert has been issued in view of the possibility of very heavy rainfall in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. An orange alert has been issued regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall in the Konkan region of Maharashtra including Mumbai. The weather is expected to remain active for the next few days in the eastern, western, northern and north-eastern states of the country.

Heavy rains are also expected in parts of central India

There is a possibility of heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Muzaffarabad between 22 and 25 June. Along with this, a warning has been issued of lightning along with heavy rains in coastal Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Apart from this, there is a possibility of heavy rains in parts of Central India including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Strong winds and lightning are expected

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive sporadic heavy rainfall. Strong winds (40–50 kmph) along with thunderstorms are also likely over Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Winds at the speed of 30–40 kmph and lightning are also likely over some areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Meteorological department advised to be cautious

Thunderstorm warnings have also been issued in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Marathwada, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Vidarbha. The weather may remain hot and humid in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert and stay in safe places.

Heavy rain alert issued in Shimla

The day has started with rain today in most parts of the state including Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla. According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon is expected to reach the state soon. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in most parts of the state during the next 24 hours.
