Pakistan has suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026, crediting him with "decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership" during a recent flare-up between India and Pakistan.

The proposal, shared publicly on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), lauded Trump’s role in "de-escalating tensions in the region." However, Indian officials have pushed back on this narrative, firmly denying that the former U.S. president played any substantial part in resolving the crisis.

Despite the controversy, Trump weighed in on the matter during a public appearance on Friday, reiterating his belief that he’s long overdue for the honour.

“I should have gotten it four or five times,” he remarked, expressing frustration over what he sees as political bias. “They won’t give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”

Trump went on to list his efforts to mediate global conflicts as reasons for his deserving the accolade — including his involvement with India and Pakistan, and his role in facilitating a peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.

India Dismisses External Mediation 

The decision by Islamabad comes just days after Trump hosted Pakistan's military chief General Asim Munir at the White House, in a rare move. According to White House spokesperson Anna Kelly, Munir credited Trump for helping prevent a possible nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan during their brief military standoff in May.

However, just before Munir's visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Trump where he set the record straight that the ceasefire was achieved through direct dialogue between Indian and Pakistani military officials, rather than any third-party involvement. 

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri later said that Modi reiterated India's long-standing position that it does not accept any third-party mediation on its dispute with Pakistan.
