Disqualification of Mishrilal Yadav
Mishrilal Yadav, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representing Alinagar, has been disqualified from the Bihar Legislative Assembly as of Friday. This action follows his conviction in an assault case from 2019, which jeopardized his position in the Assembly. An official notification from the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat confirmed that his disqualification will take effect from May 27, 2025, the date he was sentenced.
Background on Mishrilal Yadav
Mishrilal Yadav is a politician from Bihar who has now lost his seat in the state assembly. He secured the Alinagar seat as a candidate for the VIP party during the 2020 elections. Reports indicate that he was one of three legislators who joined the National Democratic Alliance on March 23, 2022. Prior to his disqualification, other MLAs such as CPIML's Manoj Manzil, RJD's Anil Sahni, and Anant Singh also faced similar fates. Yadav was found guilty of assaulting Umesh Mishra along with his supporters in Darbhanga on January 29, 2019, and received a two-year sentence from the MP MLA court.
BJP's Position in the Assembly
Despite the loss of Mishrilal Yadav's seat, the BJP continues to hold the majority in the Bihar Assembly with 79 MLAs, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) follows closely with 77 MLAs.
No By-Election Planned
Reports suggest that there will be no by-election for the Alinagar seat following Yadav's disqualification, as the current term of the 17th Legislative Assembly is set to conclude on November 22.
