India's commanding performance in the first Test against England at Leeds got even better as vice-captain Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in scoring a century in the first innings.
Continuing his impressive form in England, Pant lit up Headingley with a knock that was both impactful and entertaining.
This was Pant’s seventh Test century overall and his third on English soil, reaffirming his reputation as a big-match player in overseas conditions.
He reached the landmark in 146 deliveries, finishing the day unbeaten on 113 off 156 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes. True to his fearless style, Pant brought up his hundred with a massive six over long-on off Shoaib Bashir.
Celebration That Went Viral
Pant’s century celebration quickly became the talk of the internet.
After waving his bat to acknowledge the crowd, he took off his gloves and pulled off a playful somersault on the field — a move that had fans in splits and social media buzzing. Pant had previously performed the same celebration during the IPL 2025, and its return delighted cricket fans worldwide.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was among those who appreciated Pant’s performance and celebration.
“Rishabh’s celebration is as entertaining as his batting. Well done, Rishabh!” — Sachin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Pant’s knock not only added to India’s dominant position in the match but also reminded fans of the joy and character he brings to the game — both through his bat and his personality.
With this innings, Pant has now become the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries, overtaking MS Dhoni’s previous tally. His authoritative knock also adds to his growing reputation as one of India’s best-ever wicketkeeper-batters in red-ball cricket.
