Detention of Youth Congress Leaders Sparks Outrage
On Saturday morning, police reportedly took into custody Abhimanyu Poonia, the state president of the Youth Congress, along with student leader Nirmal Chaudhary. This action has drawn criticism from several leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who are calling for their immediate release.
According to reports, the police apprehended Poonia and Chaudhary from the Rajasthan University campus. However, law enforcement officials have refrained from commenting on the situation.
Both Poonia and Chaudhary took to social media to announce their detention. Poonia expressed on X, stating, “The police have shown cowardice by arresting me and brother Nirmal Chaudhary from the Rajasthan University campus. Is raising the voice of the common man now a crime under the brutal regime of the BJP? We will not cease our fight against this cowardly act.”
Gehlot, demanding the release of the detained leaders, wrote on X, “Detaining the Youth Congress state president and MLA Abhimanyu Poonia and Nirmal Chaudhary during an examination is unjust and a violation of democracy.”
He further emphasized, “Elected representatives have the right to voice public concerns. The state government must release them immediately.” Other Congress leaders, including state president Govind Singh Dotasra, opposition leader Tika Ram Julie, and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, have also criticized the police action on social media and demanded their release.
