Cases of online fraud are increasing rapidly in India, especially scams that lure "make money quickly". A new case has come to light from Pune where a businessman selling second-hand cars was duped at Rs 11.5 lakh on the pretext of an online task. The scammers initially won the trust by giving money in exchange for some tasks and then carried out the fraud by luring him with big profits.
This businessman living in Friday Peth, Pune received a message in which he was asked to complete a small online task to earn ₹150. After completing the task, when he got the money immediately, he became confident.
After this, he was added to a messaging app group where he was constantly given new tasks, and every time he got paid immediately.
A few days later, the scammers offered him a "merchant task" in which more earnings were claimed, but the condition was that money would have to be deposited first. The businessman sent the money to different bank accounts without thinking much. When he wanted to withdraw the earnings, he was given the runaround and pressure was put on him to deposit more money. Within two days, he lost ₹11.5 lakh.
This incident is a warning that how dangerous the greed to earn money quickly can be. Take these precautions to avoid such cases. Do not trust offers from unknown numbers or links.
Check the authenticity of any online scheme before investing money in it. Do not share your banking or personal information with any unknown person or group. Immediately report suspicious activities to the cyber crime cell.
