Hyderabad: Telugu actor Nani’s recent hit HIT 3, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, has run into legal trouble after a writer filed a copyright violation claim against the film’s storyline.
The crime thriller, which has grossed over ₹100 crore at the box office since its theatrical release on May 1 and recently began streaming on OTT platforms, is now facing a legal notice issued by the Madras High Court.
Writer Sonia Vimal filed a petition alleging that HIT 3 is based on her unpublished scripts titled Agent 11 and Agent V. In her petition, she claimed that she wrote the original story on August 4, 2021, and registered it with the South Indian Film Writers Association. Sonia further alleged that she had shared a summary of her script with actor Nani on August 8, 2022, for a possible collaboration but did not receive any response.
According to Sonia, the core plot of HIT 3 is heavily inspired by her scripts, with only a few changes made in the film version. As part of the legal proceedings, she has submitted a detailed comparison between her script and the movie’s storyline to the court.
She has demanded a share of the film’s profits and requested that the producers submit details of the box office revenue. In her plea, she asked for 20 percent of the profits as compensation. Additionally, Sonia lodged a formal complaint with the South Indian Film Writers Association but claimed no action has been taken so far.
The makers of HIT 3 have not yet issued an official response regarding the allegations. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
