PM Modi's Ambitious Global Tour

New Delhi: In a bid to enhance multilateral cooperation and strengthen economic ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant tour across multiple nations, including Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, starting next month.

The Prime Minister's itinerary, spanning from July 2 to July 10, includes visits to Morocco, Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jordan, with potential stops in additional countries.

As India positions itself as a leading voice for the Global South, PM Modi is emphasizing the nation's role as a 'Vishwa Bandhu' in a fragmented world.

Over the past 11 years, India has solidified its status as a steadfast ally of Africa, with PM Modi highlighting New Delhi's dedication to the continent.

The upcoming State Visit to Morocco marks only the second time an Indian Prime Minister has visited since Atal Bihari Vajpayee's historic trip in February 1999.

King Mohammed VI, who first visited India in 2001, returned in 2015 for the third India-Africa Forum Summit, where his discussions with PM Modi significantly strengthened bilateral relations.

Since then, India and Morocco have engaged in numerous ministerial visits and signed over 40 agreements covering areas such as counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and agriculture.

This visit comes in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, underscoring the importance of collaboration in combating terrorism, especially as Morocco faces similar threats in the Sahel region.

Following his engagements in Africa, PM Modi is expected to head to Argentina, where relations have flourished since being elevated to a Strategic Partnership during the previous Argentine President's visit to India in February 2019.

During a recent G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi and Argentine President Javier Milei discussed the deepening of trade ties, with India becoming one of Argentina's top five trading partners.

PM Modi will then participate in the BRICS Summit at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, where he previously emphasized the need for a people-centric approach to global challenges.

After the BRICS Summit, a visit to Trinidad and Tobago is anticipated, where PM Modi had previously expressed India's commitment to supporting Caribbean nations.

The historical ties between India and Trinidad date back to 1845, when the first ship carrying Indian indentured workers arrived.

On his return journey, PM Modi is likely to stop in Jordan, a nation with longstanding connections to India.

During a previous visit in February 2018, PM Modi met King Abdullah, and they have maintained communication, especially following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
