Thalapathy Vijay and Nayanthara are among Tamil cinema's most popular on-screen pairs, having worked multiple times with significant success. They first shared the screen inSivakasi (2005), where Nayanthara had a special appearance. They further worked in Villu (2009), directed by Prabhu Deva. Though Villu didn't fare well critically, it marked a key reunion for them.


Nearly a decade later, their professional bond strengthened with Bigil (2019), a sports drama directed by Atlee. Vijay played both father and son, coaching a women's football team, with Nayanthara in a pivotal role. The film was well-received, praised for its grounding yet emotional storytelling, and the pair's dynamic performance.

Jana Nayagan is set to release in theatres on January 9, 2026, just a few days before Makar Sankranti and Pongal, which is on January 14. It is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. This marks the end of Vijay's acting career. The production house dropped the 'First Roar' on Vijay's birthday. They took to X and wrote, "#HBDThalapathyVijay Let the celebration continue."

The political action thriller has a stellar star cast including Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in the lead roles, with Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju and Monisha Blessy in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander turned music composer for the film with cinematography handled by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
