One such tale is of a late actor whose on-screen and off-screen characters had a striking resemblance and one of his lesser-known incidents is an epitome of that. The actor that we are talking about is none other than the late. legendary Amrish Puri he was known for his strong aura. Popularly seen for portraying negative characters on screen his real-life personality was also that of a no-nonsense person. The actor known for the iconic character of ‘Mogambo’ or ‘Mola Ram’ had a lesser-known incident that was an epitome of his dominating personality. Born on 22 June 1932 in Nawanshahr Punjab Puri soon rose to fame and became a household name. Amrish made his debut at the age of 40 and delivered over 400 films. At a time when most artists wanted to become mainstream actors Amrish also aspired to the same; however his negative roles garnered him so much attention that he became a legend that even overshadowed the lead heroes. During a shoot with Govinda a behind-the-scenes moment happened between the two that spoke about his professionalism and punctuality. According to the reports Amrish arrived at the set at 9 am and has been waiting for Govinda since then but he didnt show up until 6 in the evening. Govinda was known for being mostly late which led to frustration and arguments between the two. Because of the delay in a heated moment Amrish Puri slapped Govinda on the set. This moment is still talked about today. Amrish was a man of discipline and punctuality and everybody had massive respect for him. Besides his mass appeal in India Amrish also made a mark internationally. He appeared in the film Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) where he portrayed the role of a terrifying villain Mola Ram and even shaved his head for the role. The performance was so iconic that he became synonymous with the character among Western audiences.
