However this one film which was made under a budget of Rs 14 lakh broke many records at the box office because of its captivating storytelling and power-packed performances. The Cult Classic Of All Time Here we are talking about the 1957 film Dosti which was helmed by the renowned director Late B.R. Chopra. The story of the film was based on the damage caused to villages by urbanization. Along with this friendship love and love triangle were also beautifully combined in the film. The friendship between Shankar and Krishna as seen in the film became very popular. Late Dilip Kumar played the role of Shankar and Late Ajit Khan played the role of Krishna. The story of Naya Daur also focused on Shankar the horse carriage driver and his farmer friend Krishna. Krishna and Shankar are best friends; their friendship is cited as an example in the entire village. But the arrival of Vyjayanthimalas character Rajni creates a rift in their friendship. Krishna and Shankar love Rajni but Rajni loves Shankar. Shankar turns his friend into an enemy because of Rajni. Krishna joins hands with Kundan (Jeevan) who brings a carriage to the village. There is a race between the carriage and the carriage by then Krishna realizes his mistake and helps Shankar. Shankar wins the race and the two become good friends again. More About Naya Daur The makers had a budget of Rs 14 lakh to make this film which grossed a collection of Rs 5 crore 40 lakh. According to Box Office Indias report in this year Mother India had the highest collection (Rs 8 crore). By many sources it remains as one of top 10 highest-grossing Indian films of all time when adjusted for ticket-price inflation. It became the highest-grossing sports film ever at time of its release and remains one of the highest ticket-selling sports film despite its release only being in India. For this movie Dilip Kumar received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the third consecutive time marking his fourth win overall. The film was later dubbed into Tamil as Pattaliyin Sabatham in 1958. Naya Daur also influenced superstar Aamir Khans film Lagaan which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2001.
