In today's time, it happens many times that the bank balance suddenly appears low and when you check, it is found that money is still being deducted due to some old subscription or service. This problem is common with those who had once activated UPI AutoPay and then forgot to turn it off.

Nowadays people use AutoPay for OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, insurance premiums, electricity bills, or mobile recharge, so that there is no hassle of payment. But the problem arises when you stop using that service and yet money keeps getting deducted automatically every month.

How UPI AutoPay works

UPI AutoPay is a digital facility in which the customer can set an e-mandate for any service. Once this mandate is activated, money will keep getting deducted from your account automatically on a fixed date every month. However, you are sent a reminder before the money is deducted.

Where is AutoPay used?

Nowadays, to avoid the hassle of making payments again and again, AutoPay is being used for many services like mobile or DTH recharge, electricity and water bills, insurance premiums, EMI or loan installment, SIP or mutual funds, gym or online course fee payment.

How to turn off AutoPay?

If you are no longer using any service and money is being deducted from it, then follow these steps to stop UPI AutoPay:

Open your UPI app (like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.)

Go to Settings or the Profile section.

Tap on ‘AutoPay’ or ‘Mandates’

Here you will see a list of all active services.

Select the one you want to stop.

Click on ‘Cancel’ or ‘Revoke’

By doing this, no further payment will be deducted from that service.

What to do if money is deducted by mistake
If you have not used any service and still the payment has been deducted, then first contact the customer support of that company. Usually, companies give refund within 24 to 72 hours.

If no solution is found, talk to your bank and request to block such transactions.
