EPFO: 19.19% more members rejoined EPFO ​​in April 2025, and resumed contribution after changing jobs

EPFO: 19.14 lakh new members joined EPFO ​​in April 2025, a 31% increase compared to March The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has added a total of 19.14 lakh new members in April 2025. This information has come to light in the latest provisional payroll data of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. This figure shows an increase of 31.31 percent as compared to March 2025, which clearly shows that employment opportunities are increasing in the organized sector and awareness about employee benefits has also increased.

On an annual basis, this increase has been 1.17 percent as compared to April 2024. The ministry says that this positive change has also been seen due to the effective outreach initiatives of EPFO.

Youth dominates among new members, 18-25 age group at the forefront

In April 2025, 8.49 lakh people joined for the first time among the new members joining EPFO, which is 12.49 percent more than in March 2025. The ministry has said that this increase is the result of new employment opportunities, awareness about employee benefits and successful programs of EPFO. The highest share among the new joining members was of youth in the age group of 18 to 25 years. 4.89 lakh new members joined this age group, which is 57.67 percent of the total new members. There has been an increase of 10.05 percent in this age group as compared to March 2025.

Similarly, the total net payroll addition in this age group was around 7.58 lakh in April 2025, which is 13.60 percent more than in March. The ministry said, "This trend shows that most of the people joining the organized sector are young and first-time job seekers."

Increase in those joining EPFO ​​again

In April 2025, about 15.77 lakh members, who had previously left EPFO, returned to EPFO. This number is 19.19 percent more than March 2025, while an annual growth of 8.56 percent was seen as compared to April 2024. According to the ministry, "These members rejoined EPFO ​​after changing jobs and opted to transfer their old funds instead of making a final settlement, thereby ensuring their long-term financial security."

Tremendous increase in participation of women employees

There is also good news on the women's participation front. In April 2025, about 2.45 lakh new women members joined EPFO, which is 17.63 percent more than in March 2025.

Apart from this, if we talk about the net payroll addition of women, then this figure was around 3.95 lakh in April, which shows a strong increase of 35.24 percent over the previous month. This change also shows the growing trend towards a more inclusive and diverse environment in workplaces.

Top 5 states with the highest

If we look at the state-wise data, the top 5 states / union territories have contributed about 60.10 percent of the total net payroll addition. A total of 11.50 lakh new net payrolls were added in these states in April. Maharashtra was at the forefront of these, where the largest net payroll addition of 21.12 percent took place. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. These states / UTs were such that individually also contributed more than 5 percent.
