However, in the 21st century, and especially over the past decade and a half, Indian pacers, too, have started to make a name for themselves in world cricket. They have helped India record several famous wins away from home, particularly in Australia and England.
These Indian fast bowlers have picked up plenty of five-wicket hauls, both at home and away, to assist the team in winning games and even Test series.

5. Javagal Srinath – 10
Former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath often carried the burden of the pace attack in the 1990s. He played 67 Tests, in which he took 236 wickets, including 10 five-wicket hauls.
Srinath’s best innings bowling figures of 8/86 came against Pakistan in Kolkata.
4. Ishant Sharma – 11
Ishant Sharma is the only genuine India fast bowler to play over 100 matches in Test cricket. In 105 Tests, Ishant snared 311 wickets with 11 five-wicket hauls to his name.
Ishant’s best bowling figures in an innings in Test cricket were 7/74 against England at Lord’s in 2014.
3. Zaheer Khan – 11
India’s finest left-arm pacer, Zaheer Khan recorded 11 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket in his 92-Test career, spanning from 2000 to 2014.
Zaheer collected 311 wickets in his Test career, with a best of 7/87 against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
2. Jasprit Bumrah – 14
Jasprit Bumrah is in a league of his own. Among bowlers who have taken a minimum of 200 wickets in Test cricket, Bumrah’s average, which currently is 19.33, is the best ever in Test cricket. Is Bumrah the best bowler of all time in Test cricket? He certainly seems to be the most skilful.
He has the second-most five-wicket hauls by an Indian fast bowler in Test cricket. Bumrah has so far taken 14 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket in 46 Tests, with 210 wickets at an average of less than 20. His best bowling figures in Test cricket are 6/27, which he claimed against the West Indies in Kingston in 2019.
1. Kapil Dev – 23
The legendary Indian captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev took 434 wickets in his Test career, the most by an Indian fast bowler. He also holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian fast bowler in Test cricket with 23 five-fors.
Kapil’s best bowling figures were 9/83, which he took against the West Indies in Ahmedabad in 1983.
