Phu Quoc, named the world’s second most beautiful island by Travel + Leisure magazine, is estimated to attract 4.4 million visitors in the first six months of this year, a 33% increase compared to the same period last year.
The number includes more than 881,000 international visitors, reaching nearly 90% of its annual target of one million, according to Kien Giang’s Department of Tourism.
Tourism revenue from January to June reached VND21.5 trillion, up 92% year-on-year.
A number of Asian celebrities like Chinese actor and martial artist Vincent Zhao, and Miss Hong Kong 2011 Rebecca Zhu recently visited Phu Quoc, further boosting its appeal.
The island has received multiple accolades from global travel publications. Recently, it ranked third on Travel + Leisure’s list of the 10 best islands in the Asia-Pacific, behind only Bali and Koh Samui.
Last year, Phu Quoc was voted the world’s second most beautiful island by Travel + Leisure readers, just after the Maldives.
