Expulsion of MLAs from Samajwadi Party
On Monday, the Samajwadi Party announced the expulsion of three MLAs from Uttar Pradesh who had voted against the party line in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party during the Rajya Sabha elections held last year.
The expelled members include Abhay Singh from Gosaiganj, Rakesh Pratap Singh from Gauriganj, and Manoj Kumar Pandey, a former chief whip from Unchahar. These legislators were part of a group of seven party members who cross-voted in the February 2024 Rajya Sabha elections.
This cross-voting contributed to the loss of one of the three candidates that the Samajwadi Party had nominated for the elections.
The party stated that the expulsion was due to the legislators' support for ideologies that oppose the interests of farmers, women, youth, businesses, and working professionals, as well as the marginalized communities represented by the term PDA (Pichde, Dalit, and Alpasankhyak).
The Samajwadi Party also mentioned that a previously granted 'grace period' for the MLAs to reconsider their actions had expired. However, this grace period continues for other legislators who have demonstrated good behavior.
“In the future, individuals who act against the interests of the people will not have a place in our party,” the Samajwadi Party emphasized.
