Delhi: Indian cricket team star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been given a demerit point for expressing dissatisfaction with the umpires during the first Test match against England.

The 27 -year -old Pant admitted that he had disagreed with the umpires during the 61st over of England’s first innings at Handingley on the third day of the Test match. At that time England batsmen Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were at the crease. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has considered it a violation of Level 1 under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred when Pant discussed the status of the match ball with the field umpires Paul Refel and Chris Ghaffni. After investigation from the ball gauge, when the umpires refused to change the ball, Pant angrily threw the ball on the ground in front of him.

Rishabh accepted his crime and also accepted the proposed punishment by match referee Richie Richardson, so he did not attend a formal hearing.

A statement from the ICC said, “A demerit point has been added to Rishabh Pant’s disciplinary records. This is the first crime in his last 24 months.”

If a player receives four or more demerit points over a period of two years, they are converted into suspension points and the player is banned. Two suspension points means a test or two ODIs or two T20 matches.

Left -handed batsman Pant has played an important role for India in this Test being played in Leeds. He has become the second batsman to score a century in both innings in the same Test in Headingley. Apart from this, he has also become the second wicketkeeper to do so at any place.
