Margaret Cho recently opened up about her decades-long professional relationship with Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on The Kelly Mantle Show podcast . The 56-year-old stand-up comedian spoke candidly about their interactions, which she said date back to the 1980s.

Cho recalled knowing DeGeneres, 67, for a long time and reflected on the evolution of their dynamic. She noted that the public perception of DeGeneres has changed over time, and recounted personal experiences that aligned with that shift.

Describing their early career overlap, Cho said she opened for DeGeneres at comedy clubs before the latter’s rise to national fame. Despite their shared history, Cho said the tone of their relationship changed during later encounters—particularly when she appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the 2000s.

“She acted like we just met,” Cho said during the interview. “And I’m like, ‘What? That’s weird. We go way back.’”

Cho also mentioned that she sensed tension between them throughout their careers. She speculated that past personal relationships may have contributed to the strain, noting that some of DeGeneres’ partners had been fans of her own work.

The interview adds to the ongoing conversation about DeGeneres’ interpersonal relationships within the entertainment industry, particularly in light of past public scrutiny. Neither DeGeneres nor her representatives have commented on Cho’s remarks at this time.
