Former The View co-host and political commentator Meghan McCain is preparing to welcome another addition to her household. The 40-year-old mother of two has announced she’s pregnant with her third child—a baby boy—with husband Ben Domenech.

The announcement came during a heartfelt moment on her podcast Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain, in an upcoming episode airing Wednesday, June 25. McCain broke the news while speaking with Usha Vance, the Second Lady of the United States.

“I hope you don't mind. I wanted to let you in on something that's private that I haven't talked about publicly yet,” McCain said during the conversation, in a clip shared exclusively with People. “I have two little girls. They are almost 5 and almost 3. And I just am entering my second trimester, I'm pregnant with my third.”

She added with a laugh, “I know this is a weird way to announce it, but I'm very nervous about... it's a boy. I'm very nervous about having a boy. And I'm very nervous about having three children. Very.”

A new chapter

McCain and Domenech, a political writer and commentator, married in 2017. Their journey to parenthood hasn’t been without pain—McCain previously opened up about suffering a miscarriage in a candid New York Times essay in 2019.

“Ben and I are the luckiest, most incredibly blessed people in the world surrounded by love and support,” she wrote in a moving Instagram post at the time, sharing her hopes that her story would help others feel “less alone.”

She continued, “None of us are alone in this. I was petrified to share my story publicly but I never, ever let fear dictate my life choices. I will always take the leap, I will always roll the dice.”

The couple went on to welcome their first daughter, Liberty Sage, in September 2020, followed by their second, Clover Jade, in January 2023. Speaking to Daily Mail after Clover’s birth, Domenech praised McCain’s “strength and love for our daughters,” adding, “I feel so blessed that her and Clover are both doing well and I cannot wait for our entire family to meet our baby girl.”


McCain has often shared glimpses of her deep connection to her late father, Senator John McCain, through her parenting journey. In a 2022 episode of the Me Becoming Mom podcast, she reflected on how Liberty reminds her of him in small, uncanny ways.

“She does this thing with her hands, and [my dad] used to do that all the time. I don’t do it. I don’t know where it comes from, but she does it even now,” she said, adding that it brings back memories that are both strange and comforting. “But with my daughter, it’s just pure. She’s perfection.”

As she looks ahead to welcoming her third child, Meghan McCain continues to balance personal vulnerability with her signature candor—this time, embracing the beautiful chaos of motherhood with three little ones in tow.
