Chinese scientists! 5 times the speed of the internet, Starlink to get from space to earth

A Chinese squad has developed a new technology of satellite laser communication, that is, sending data from satellite to earth, which can make the Internet speed higher than Starlink. The special thing of this technology is that without the obstacles to the earth’s atmosphere, it can transmit data at a speed of 3 gigabit per second (GBPS). This capacity is better than existing technology like Starlink, which is currently said to provide speed in the megabit range.

This research was conducted under the leadership of Woo Jian and Chinese Academy of Sciences of China’s Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications. Scientists transmitted this data from a satellite at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers from the earth and used only 2 watts of laser beams. (Photo courtesy – google gemini ai)

Where the test killed

The test was conducted at a research facility in Liziang city, China, where a 1.5 meter telescope was used. The biggest challenge in this experiment was the atmospheric turbulence, which weakens and distributes the laser signal.

How did you get so fast?

To solve this problem, scientists used two special techniques:

  1. Adaptive Optics (AO) – This technique gives the correct shape to the distorted wavefront of the laser beam
  2. MODE DIVERSITITY RECEPTION (MDR) – It divides the signal into several channels and captures at the same time

Not only the strength of the signal, which combined with the two, has not only enhanced the strength of the signal but also improved the reliability of the transmission. Research states that the new system has increased the successful rate of signal reception to 90% from 5% to 90%.

What kind of equipment was used?

  • The telescope contains 2 micro-pears, which improve the direction and wavefront of the laser
  • Signal was divided into 1 channel by multi-plane converter
  • A custom algorrorham selected the 5 strongest signals from that channel and through it transferred the data.

Will this be a future internet?

China had previously been in laser-based satellite communication. In 2, China’s Cookian-1 satellite reached the record laser speed of 4GBPS. However, information about the power details used is not yet public.

But from this new technology it is clear that in the future we can get a very fast and reliable internet connection through satellite, without fiber or mobile tower. Therefore, it seems to be making more and more progress.
